ADD YOUR "VOICE TO THE CHORUS" IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

PART I

* Write about basic elements of your identity (see 'educational autobiography' below for complete outline--make sure to reference ALL pieces of information in your essay):

  1. who you are & where you are from
  2. your experience in education so far (locations, key events/people, favorite books, challenges, and victories)
  3. why you want to go to college and what will make you succeed (what you bring to the table)
  4. what do you want to study and what type of college do you think would be the best fit (be specific)
  5. what career you are leaning toward and how your college major will prepare you (use the MyPLAN website)
  6. who in your area of academic interest, major, or chosen career inspires you (3 people, of different historical periods)

* Tell your story in three formats: (Dr. E's 3-D NIA Statement: The Conjure Woman's Storybook)

3. Standard essay (3 page maximum - 750 words): Use resources from the outline below to guide your writing

 

PART II

* Upload a video of you reading all three pieces onto YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/

* Total video time must be kept under 5 minutes


PART III

* Email the complete statement (Haiku, Spoken word, Essay) in one MICROSOFT WORD document and email the YouTube link to contact@professorevans.com

* Write “3-D NIA Statement,  LastName” in the subject line;

* Include the following information on the top right corner of your document and in the introduction to your video

  1. Name, email address
  2. Where you are from
  3. Year in high school or college and institution name
  4. Major or academic interest
  5. Professional goal in the top right hand corner of the document
  6. YouTube link
